I’ve been making pottery again (finally!) in the new studio space at my house. I actually managed to get a space in the garage cleaned out where I now have a wheel, kiln, shelf space, and a table. Later, I’ll post about the nerdy setup I’ve put together for my kiln that will collect data about firings. For now, I have just been trying to make some pots and get a feel for the clay again, as it has been about a year since I did any work.
Having had such a good time with my last mask build, I was looking forward to the Carrack’s annual fundraising event, the Muse Masquerade. It provided an excellent reason for me to continue exploring mask making.
I have added a new batch of pots to my portfolio in the Pottery Galery. These will likely trickle out via Instagram, as well. The one in the banner photo was particularly photogenic. It uses a couple of my favorite techniques.
The [Muse Masquerade] muse is an annual benefit for the Carrack carrack modern art gallery, a local, artist-centered space. It is an evening of costumes, artist sideshows, dance performances, and other masqueradey fun. I’ve been the last few years and it has been a great excuse to try my hand at making masks.
There are times when I want to tell a longer story than what makes sense in the sound bite world of social media.
